  2. Comments Oleksandr Evangeli: “The artist’s attention is focused on lonely people in a conventional space. Zvezdotchyotova highlights the unobvious absence of something important. Her paintings disturb the viewer with a multitude of questions: behind every image, one can guess a story, which intrigues and slips away without giving an answer. This slipping urges the viewer to decipher, but he still lacks some connections”.

Olena Selina: “Deliciously” constructed image and accurately identified kitsch basis, due to the varied nostalgic texture, reveal the warm childhood memories, whose aesthetics have already faded into past. By summarizing and exaggerating popular notion of beauty, the artist with soft irony reconstructs the world of Soviet petty happiness. The ‘handicraft’ technique, traditionally associated with women’s crafts, often provokes the researchers to regard the works by Larisa Zvezdochetova in the feminist context, which seems inaccurate, because the analysis of kitsch component of contemporary consciousness in the artist’s works always coexists with the admiration for the image itself and the way of life that gave birth to this image”

Mykyta Alekseev: “But many of the titles of her artworks include words from the vocabulary of ‘beauty’, ‘beautiful’. She has been professionally creating folk art for a long time. She knows very well that, when an inhabitant of a city or village decorates his or her house, car, or refrigerator in some incredible way, he or she does this for the passion of beauty. Moreover, the concept of beauty is unstable. Beauty in the works by Larysa Rezun-Zvezdotchyotova can be perceived as ironic”.
